From the mat to the corner
Coach Danny's journey through wrestling is a story of transformation: from a chubby kid with big dreams to an Illinois heavyweight state champion. Wrestling taught him that progress rarely comes without struggle, and that lesson has stayed with him long after his own competitive career.
Today, Danny is passionate about passing those lessons on to the next generation. With four children, including three old enough to wrestle at Fox Valley Wrestling Club, he has a personal stake in helping young athletes discover what the sport can teach them.
He believes deeply in wrestling's ability to build character, perseverance, and grit — qualities that have shaped both his life and his coaching style.
Still learning
Outside of coaching, Danny is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and trains regularly. Ask him what the Jiu Jitsu practitioners think of wrestling.
Danny works professionally as a software engineer and enjoys tinkering with computers for fun as well. That combination of coaching, technology, and curiosity has also led him to build IKWF History as an independent project dedicated to preserving Illinois youth wrestling history.
From Sterling Newman to FVWC
Danny experienced firsthand how wrestling can transform a person. At Sterling Newman, he won a state title during the school's remarkable eleven-year streak of individual state champions, contributing to a tradition of excellence that left a lasting impression on him.
Now, as a coach at Fox Valley Wrestling Club, Danny hopes to help build a similar tradition — one athlete, one practice, and one hard-earned lesson at a time.
